How to use LinkedIn’s ‘People’ Feature to Find Fellow Alumni at Companies

Early-career and seasoned professionals alike are using LinkedIn to maximize their job search as the go-to-place for industry connection through networking. As you gear up to make the most of the platform, I am excited to share my favorite feature – the “People” tab – and how it can help you network like a pro!

Reaching out to someone you don’t know is a lot easier when you share something in common. It’s the perfect icebreaker and a natural way to get a conversations flowing. That’s why LinkedIn’s “People” tab is one of the best-kept secrets for finding your fellow alumni at companies you are interested in.

How to use the “People” Tab

Let’s say you want to work at Wayfair. Start by searching for “Wayfair” in the search bar to find their company page. Once you land on their page, click on the “People” tab. From there, you can filter employees by:

  • Geographic Location
  • Alma Mater
  • Role
  • Skills
  • Program of Study
  • LinkedIn Connection (1st, 2nd, or 3rd connection)

Select “Boston University” as the educational institution, and you will instantly see which Wayfair employees are fellow BU alumni. Now, when it’s time to reach out to professionals, you can find people who you can resonate and connect with knowing you have something in common!
