About Us
Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) is a human services agency helping families and individuals in all stages of homelessness and housing insecurity. Services include emergency shelter, housing search case management, daytime drop-in, street outreach, supportive housing, homeless/eviction prevention and connections to supplemental services. SHC also operates Project SOUP, which is a food service program that includes a pantry marketplace, community meals and delivery of groceries to the homebound. Position Summary
Join our Development Team to gain behind-the-scenes experience in nonprofit administration, fundraising, and communications. This internship is ideal for someone interested in business, nonprofit management, development, marketing, or communications—not a client-facing role, but one that helps power our mission from within.
This internship offers valuable exposure to the inner workings of nonprofit development and is perfect for students looking to build skills in administration, fundraising, and marketing.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support for development projects
- Assist with planning and executing fundraising events and community outreach efforts
- Create and manage social media content across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Design graphics and promotional materials using Canva
- Take photos and create original posts to highlight programs, events, and behind-the-scenes work
- Help draft donor communications, newsletters, and marketing materials
- Support grant writing and reporting processes (as appropriate based on skill level)
- Maintain and organize donor databases, files, and materials
Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Interest in nonprofit development, fundraising, or marketing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with social media tools and platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Canva, etc.)
- Creative eye for storytelling through photos, design, and messaging
- Detail-oriented and organized, with an ability to manage multiple tasks
- Professional, collaborative, and self-motivated
Schedule and Hours
Internship weekly schedules will be decided on before hiring based on the needs of the organization and intern.
Work Environment
This job operates in an office and professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. On occasion the job will require going out in events or organizations, based on the needs of the business.
Physical Demands
This is mostly sedentary outside of travel in an office space. This would require the ability to sit at a desk, frequent walking, bend or stand as necessary.
Travel
Position requires minimal travel; based on the needs of the operations and business.
