General How To: BU and Handshake
How do I post an internship/job opportunity?
The CCD uses Handshake for sharing open positions with students and alumni. This platform will allow you to post your job and internship opportunities and manage the application process. See Handshake’s guide to posting positions.
How can I set up an event at BU, such as an info session or meet and greet?
The Handshake platform is also the best place to request and promote opportunities to BU students, whether in person (on/off campus) or virtual. Once an event is approved, we will promote it to students through a variety of campus channels. See Handshake’s guide to requesting events.
Where can I find information on career fairs? How do I register?
The CCD hosts a wide variety of events throughout the fall and spring semesters including, career fairs. These fairs may be open to all students of all majors and degree levels, as well as industry specific fairs. You can find and register for all of these opportunities in Handshake. Does BU host virtual career fairs? How can I register? How does it work?
Yes, the CCD and the other BU career offices host virtual fairs. The details of these are subject to change, but finding and registering for them are the same as with on-campus fairs. To learn more about attending a virtual fair, see Handshake’s guide to virtual fairs.
Planning a Campus Recruitment Strategy
When is the best time to post a position or plan an event?
While students will see both positions and events throughout the year, they are more likely to be paying attention during the academic year. To assist with your planning, we recommend consulting BU’s academic calendars.
How can I increase my brand awareness on campus?
There are a variety of ways to build brand awareness with the BU community. We invite you to start with exploring the options we support.
How can I connect with student organizations on campus?
There are more than 400 student organizations across a wide variety of categories, including community engagement, cultural, political, student governments, and academic and professional. We are happy to help facilitate partnerships and/or promotion of campus recruiting opportunities.

Can the Center for Career Development recommend to employers the top candidate for a job?
No, the Center for Career Development cannot recommend the top candidate for a job to employers.
Are there costs associated with recruiting opportunities through the CCD?
Yes, for certain events through the CCD there are additional fees. However, there are many events such as on campus interviews, info sessions, and meet and greets, where there are no fees (aside from any optional catering).

What is the Yawkey Nonprofit Internship Program? Where can I learn more?
This is a selective program designed to support student participation in unpaid internships at nonprofit organizations in the Boston area and beyond. Students must secure an eligible internship before applying. Participants have program requirements to complete that assist them in planning for, engaging in, and reflecting upon their internships.
