After Interview
Thank-You Notes
Thank-you notes are an important part of the interview process. They give you an opportunity to share your gratitude and appreciation towards your interviewers and reiterate your interest in the position. We also recommend including 1–2 items that particularly impressed or intrigued you in your note. This helps to reiterate your interest and demonstrate that you were paying attention to what the interviewer(s) said.
Send your note(s) within 24 hours of each interview in the body of an email. If you had multiple interviewers, you can send notes to each person, one to the whole group, or a combination.
Reflection TopicsÂ
After an interview, you have a lot more information about the role and the organization. You may be more excited about the opportunity or might have learned something that makes you rethink your interest. Here are some questions you can reflect on:
- Did you feel confident in your responses. If so, why or why not?
- After meeting with the hiring team, did anything stand out to you in a positive or negative way.
- Do you have enough information to decide if the role is a good fit? If not, what information would be helpful for you at this time?Â
Follow Up
If you haven’t heard from the organization within a few weeks of your interview, send a follow-up email to the hiring manager or the primary contact. Reiterate your interest and your interest in hearing from them soon. A delay from hearing from your interviewer(s) does not necessarily mean that you are no longer considered for the position. Common occurrences include: additional internal responsibilities, a large candidate pool, and hiring team discussions.
However, during this process, you may not hear if another candidate was selected. Some organizations will inform all candidates when the position is filled; others will not. We recommend a maximum of 2 follow-up emails, at least a week apart. If there’s still no response, this is likely an indication of the position being already filled.
