As a student with disabilities, whether visible or invisible, you may be worried about facing discrimination during the job search process and in the workplace.

Find Internships and Jobs

For jobseekers with disabilities, job and internship searching may be difficult due to issues from inaccessible job applications to inequitable hiring processes. The Job Accommodation Network provides free consulting services for individuals with physical or intellectual limitations that affect employment. The Workforce Recruitment Program is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal and private-sector employers nationwide with highly motivated college students and recent graduates with disabilities. Lime Connect offers scholarships, internship programs, and professional development opportunities for students and professionals with disabilities, aiming to prepare and connect high-potential candidates with top-tier corporations.

Find Community: Professional Associations and Networking Groups

Building community among fellow students and professionals with disabilities can make navigating the career space less daunting. Examples include American Association of People with Disabilities and Learning Disabilities Association of America.

Know Your Rights

There are laws that protect you from harassment, discrimination, and harm as you navigate your career. The Department of Labor has put together this two-page Disability Rights guide to assist people with disabilities in navigating the job application process and workplace environment. Additionally, The American Civil Liberties Union has put together this Know Your Rights: Disability Rights guide to navigating the workplace, public spaces, renting a home, and more as a person with a disability.

Find Support at BU

Disability & Access Services provides services and support to ensure that all BU students can participate in the various opportunities and events on campus. The Disability Collective is a space for people with disabilities to come together.

A non-BU resource, College Scholarships for Students with Disabilities, has information on scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate students.
